Basic Weedeater Maintenance Tips

!: Basic Weedeater Maintenance Tips

Weedeaters are some of the truly great innovations of modern man. Before they were invented, removing weeds involved a lot of back-breaking manual labor that took up a lot of time and energy in order to get those annoying weeds out of the yard. A weed trimmer consists of an aluminum or steel shaft with a handle on one end, and the motor with the blade/string on the other end. While most weedeaters only have one handle, others come with two handles for better grip and control.

The average weedeater doesn't really need very much maintenance, which makes caring for the machines a lot easier and less time-consuming. Your main concern with your trimmer is to make sure it stays clean so it doesn't develop rust. Cleanliness is also important so your blade doesn't spoil and your engine functions properly without any unnecessary clogging. Oftentimes grass, twigs, and other debris will build up, so you want to make sure and remove that with some type of air compressor, a leaf blower works fine. If your trimmer uses a string, be sure to replace the line whenever it seems to get worn down or about to break, to ensure optimal performance of your equipment. The important thing here when re threading your line is to make sure you have a long enough line to begin with and that it's threaded carefully and tight enough so it doesn't become loose.

When you're out looking for your replacement string, you want to make sure to check beforehand the proper size in the manual that came with your trimmer. If you notice that the line is loose, remove the head and cut the new string; you want to make sure that it's over 6 inches. Usually, the spool will have arrows that indicate the proper direction for threading the string.

If you're the lazy type, you can actually just buy a string replacement cartridge so you don't have to thread the line by hand. Of course it will cost you a little more cash, but if you're not comfortable with replacing the line yourself, this is the best way to go.
